Your job will be to make sure optometry clinics run smoothly by organising logistics, assisting with clinic operations, and supporting optometrists. You’ll help make eye care accessible for communities that need it most, especially in remote and Aboriginal communities.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Coordinate Outreach Services

  • Work with local health teams and hospitals to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Keep track of any issues that could impact the clinic and work to resolve them.

2. On-the-Ground Support at Clinics

  • Travel with optometrists to community clinics, helping with setup, running the clinics, and pack-down.
  • Promote the clinic services and encourage community members to come for eye checks.
  • Help patients choose spectacles and manage payment options.
  • Assist with completing necessary paperwork (eye records, spectacle orders, etc.).

3. Administrative and Follow-Up Tasks

  • Process spectacle orders and input clinic statistics into the system.
  • Share patient stories and photos (with consent) to show the impact of the program.
  • Assist with scheduling, trip planning, and other admin duties.
  • Be the point of contact for clinics, providing follow-up on services delivered.

4. Community Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with Aboriginal communities and health workers.
  • Participate in committees and work on initiatives to improve eye care for the Top End.

What You Need:

Essential:

  • High school certificate (or equivalent) or experience in remote health.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience in administrative tasks, ideally in health or community work.
  • Ability to work well with Aboriginal communities and health workers.
  • Safe 4WD driving experience and a current NT driver’s license.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and using computer databases.
  • Ability to apply for an Ochre Card (NT Working with Children Check).
  • Willingness to travel extensively to remote communities by 4WD or light aircraft.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the Northern Territory, particularly in Aboriginal communities or Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations.
  • Background in health service coordination or clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and eye care needs in remote communities.
  • Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Familiarity with medical databases like PCIS & Communicare.

Make a real difference in improving eye care in remote communities.

  • Work in a dynamic environment where every day is unique.
  • Opportunities to travel across the beautiful Top End of NT.
  • Be part of a supportive team committed to community health.
